This has been the most thrilling race since quite some time. This is exactly y I became a schumi fan in the first place.
The qual2 mistake really put me off b4 the race started. Then barri's retirement was the lowest point in the race. But then on it was just a beautiful drive by the champ.
Truly I wasnt expecting much after schumi was stuck behind the train of slow cars on a track where overtaking is real tuff. The race wasnt telecast live here so i didnt have the lap times to refer to, to get an idea of schumi's pace but phew he just flew around the track.
After the first round of pit stops sorted themselves out it was getting clear what was happening. Schumi was consistently around 2 secs a lap faster than button n alonso. It was just amazing to see this drive. The move on button was as smooth as a hot knife thru butter. No second guesses, he saw the hole and just went thru zup! If only he could have got around button a couple of laps earlier or if button had pitted a few earlier the race could have been ours. If n buts...
Full points to alonso though to have absorbed the pressure from the champ and coming out on tops in the end. Full points to bridgestone 2 as the tyres on schumi's car up to the last lap looked pretty good. And the car is as fast as the F2004 was compared to the rest of the class.
Have ferrari finally arrived? Is it really the start of the season as schumi claimed b4 the race?
I would wait for the next race b4 i really think so. The few things we need to consider are that alonso was on his second race on the same engine and there were some concerns in that dept for them. May b renault de-tuned the engine a bit? The situation will be the opposite in spain with schumi on his second race & alonso with a new engine. The other thing is that all the teams test so much in barcelona that i dont think the tyres would make much difference unless 1 of em tries to go 2 aggressive (and end up stupid). I think on 8th May it will all be clear where the championship is headed.
BTW ferrari need to sort out the relability problems and barri needs to start taking points away from alonso if they r 2 end on top. And I really hope kimi also gets a bit lucky soon or else he'll go crazy. Mclaren have been failing him way 2 often.
All said n done, this man is still as hungry as a rookie even after more than a decade in the sport and 7 championships under his belt. If this doesnt inspire u then what does?
